Iran veteran director passes away

Director of classic Iranian series 'Braves of Tangestan', Homayoun Shahnavaz, has passed away from injuries of a fire blast at his home.

In an explosion caused by gas leak in Homayoun Shahnavaz's home last Saturday, he was catapulted from the fourth floor and hit the street.

He died on Wednesday at Tehran's Motahhari Hospital following the severe injuries.

Shahnavaz directed 'Braves of Tangestan' in the early 1970s. He also pursued his interest in Iran’s modern history in 'The Silent King' (2003), which revolves around the policy Qajar king Ahmad Shah practiced after his country’s neutrality was violated by the allies during the World War I.

He also wrote the screenplay for 'The Fateful Night' directed by Shahram Asadi in 2008 about war hero Daryaqoli Sourani, who joins the people in Abadan during the early days of the Iraq-Iran war in 1980-1988 to prevent his hometown from being captured by the Iraqis.
